Remembered by many of his clients from the 1980s as “the top farm salesman in the north”, Mel Currin has recently returned to PGG Wrightson Real Estate, Whangarei taking up the position of rural/lifestyle sales with strong emphasis on achieving the best possible result for his clients.
Mel, who first began his real estate career with George Boyes in Northland in 1980, has a lifetime of knowledge and experience in rural real estate. Over these many years and at different stages of his career, Mel has been involved in all aspects of rural sales including management and agency ownership. From the old trusty days of “handshakes and IOUs” to the current days of complex due diligence and fellow man suspicion, the common thing that remains in buying and selling farms has not changed. As always, to achieve the best price and a successful fair farm sale, the requirements are a genuine buyer, genuine seller and a good negotiator.
Mel says that to achieve the very individual goals of farming folk, often an initial confidential kitchen table discussion can lead to a better planned future result whether selling or buying. Listening, understanding and forming a well-structured campaign with consideration given to timing, often paramount to the farmer and their loved ones, are most important. In today’s uncertain and often unpredictable times, financial and other unplanned stresses can lead to uncertainty – “Will we or won’t we sell?” “Can we weather the storm?” “What are our options?” Mel’s advice is always to let “choice and not compulsion” be your friend.
Mel has an easy-going nature, vast experience and is a real “people person”. Historically involved in dairy farming and property development, with hands-on experience at the coalface, Mel knows the agriculture industry inside out. Having over many years seen cases of “boom or bust”, Mel is always happy to lend an ear and discuss confidentially the options that he sees are available to you using his experience and involvement in similar farming circumstances that have seen successful resolution.
Being part of a professional and progressive team, Mel is a real team player who revels in working alongside his colleagues to achieve the most for his vendors or purchasers.
With an extensive book of contacts from the tip of the north to the tail of the south looking for properties ranging from the small and unique to the large and well-oiled, you will not find an agent with better pulling power.
So whether you are looking to buy or sell, just pick up the phone and call Mel.
