After selling his farm in Hawke’s Bay, Martin transitioned into real estate in 1989, moving with his family to Waikato. He owned and managed several successful real estate businesses before taking a break in 2009 to travel, eventually settling in the south of France. In 2013, observing the real estate market's recovery, he returned to New Zealand and joined PGG Wrightson.
