News Release: PGG Wrightson Real Estate purchases Ashburton-based property management and marketing company Real Estate New Zealand

PGG Wrightson Real Estate has acquired Ashburton-based Real Estate New Zealand. Calvin Leen, Mid-South Canterbury and North Otago Sales Manager for PGG Wrightson Real Estate said the purchase gives the company a compelling proposition in Mid-Canterbury’s property management market, as well as strengthening its presence in residential and lifestyle property.

“We have been looking to purchase an established Mid Canterbury business that will immediately complement PGG Wrightson’s existing rural business. Real Estate New Zealand is an ideal fit, and an excellent opportunity to progress our growth and development in Ashburton, as well as Rakaia, Methven and surrounding areas. This purchase enables us to introduce property management services to the region’s townships and rural localities, which is a significant growth opportunity, particularly for our dairy farm clients, many of whom have multiple homes located on-farm providing staff accommodation that will benefit from this service.

“Real Estate New Zealand’s residential property management service is one of the largest in Mid Canterbury, employing three property managers. This operates alongside its residential sales business, currently serviced by a team of three salespeople.

“Led by current owner and co-founder Trevor Hurley, who has 30 years of successful sales experience, Real Estate New Zealand is a long-standing boutique-based property business. It complements our existing rural business, which is growing strong market share in Mid and South Canterbury,” said Calvin.

Trevor Hurley started his real estate career in 1992. He says PGG Wrightson closely aligns with the attributes and community involvement central to his business, which includes extensive support for numerous community causes, including the Heart Foundation, the Cancer Society and Ronald McDonald House, as well as being Ashburton’s first company to become a Living Wage Employer.

“This is the right move for our customers, clients and the wider community. PGG Wrightson Real Estate is a national brand, and one of the best recognised and most respected in provincial New Zealand. Their systems, processes and nationwide network will further strengthen the customer focus that Real Estate New Zealand is based on,” said Trevor.

Trevor Hurley will continue to lead the team as PGG Wrightson Real Estate Ashburton office manager, operating out of Real Estate New Zealand’s existing premises at 191 Burnett Street.
