Demand for kiwifruit property set to focus on generous Bay of Plenty development block
Values for fully developed Bay of Plenty gold kiwifruit orchards have risen spectacularly over the past few seasons.
Current benchmark prices of $1.3 million per canopy hectare are based on the generous returns orchardists are making: Zespri reported this year’s average orchard gate return for SunGold was $177,846 per hectare, with more successful orchards doing twice as well.
Although kiwifruit orchards are rural property’s most heavily demanded class, growers prefer to make the most of exceptional returns rather than cashing in their asset. Demand for property has therefore turned to bare land with kiwifruit potential.
A 40 hectare block subdivided from a Te Puke dairy farm will be offered to market this spring by Dave McLaren of PGG Wrightson Real Estate, Te Puke. Meeting all the requirements for transformation into a large orchard, it will attract plenty of attention from new kiwifruit investors, and existing orchardists aiming to expand.
This and many other outstanding listings will feature in the September 2021 edition of New Zealand’s number one rural property publication PGG Wrightson Real Estate’s Property Express.
