Wealth of excellent golf courses adds to Bay of Plenty’s outstanding lifestyle attractions
While the Bay of Plenty has numerous lifestyle attractions, for many drawn to the region golf is a big part of its appeal.
Mike Matutinovich is among their number. Originally from Auckland, though having lived at Waihi Beach for 20 years, Mike is a member of the PGG Wrightson Real Estate team based in Waihi.
“We have around 40 golf courses in the region, from Coromandel, down to Opotiki, then across to Taupo. For those living in or around Tauranga, these courses are all within an easy drive.
“Ohope is a superb links course; Te Puke is one of district’s premier courses; Taupo has the renowned Wairakei International; Omokoroa is a pleasant course to play, with some excellent lifestyle properties nearby, where many of that club’s members live,” he says.
Mike also notes the features of other courses in the region, like Summerhill Estate, Papamoa; Fairview, which also has options to buy property in and around the course; and one of the region’s highest profile golf destinations The Mount Maunganui GC. However, Mike’s favourite, understandably as he is a club member, is his local, the Waihi Golf Club.
“Maybe members of most golf clubs will say the same, but our club has a great vibe and atmosphere with friendly people and good competitions for those who make that their focus. Membership is growing, which has plenty to do with people moving to Bay of Plenty for the great lifestyle.
“Because it is so warm and sunny here, with our laid-back Bay of Plenty lifestyle, we certainly have more than our share of days best spent on the golf course. However, that is not to overlook the pleasures of fishing, hunting and coastal walks, which we also have abundant opportunities to enjoy in this region, further adding to the Bay of Plenty’s appeal.
“More and more people have come to appreciate how good living here is, and the number looking to buy Bay of Plenty lifestyle property continues to grow,” he says.
