South Canterbury born and raised but now considering himself a Marlborough local, having lived here since 1997, Joe Blakiston has a grown-up family of three boys and one girl.
Joe has been with the company since 1983, having spent time as a livestock representative in St Andrews and Fairlie before moving into rural banking at the Timaru branch in 1992. His involvement in real estate began with managing the South Canterbury urban and rural sales force for Pyne Gould Guinness Ltd in 1993. He was appointed branch manager of PGG Blenheim in 1997, with the dual role of district manager and real estate sales manager until 2010. Joe then focused on Marlborough real estate sales, with responsibilities for the Kaikoura market, as well as managing sales in the Nelson region. In addition to being one of five PGG Wrightson accredited auctioneers, Joe is an Associate of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. The Marlborough region is quite distinct from the traditional PGG Wrightson area of operation, with a mix of rural property sold from high-value viticultural land to traditional pastoral units, high country dairy farms and lifestyle blocks.
Joe’s extensive career in management, finance and real estate gives him an unsurpassed knowledge of matters vital to a successful real estate transaction. His extensive network of professional contacts is vital to understanding trends in the market, as is his ability to relate to grassroots farmers and rural businessmen. Outside of work, Joe has a family of four who enjoy camping, tramping and all sports. Joe has refereed rugby to provincial level and is a past president of Marlborough’s Cuddon Road Cycling Club. He is also involved with the Rotoiti Power Boat Club, helping organise the annual regatta.
